Bill AB 2003

Bill AB 2003 has recently been passed through the California Assembly Floor, with unanimous votes for it to move up to the Senate and it is currently moving up through the Senate. Bill AB 2003’s main purpose is to serve youth’s mental health. In recent years teenagers, mainly those in middle and high school, have seen a decline in mental wellbeing, due to a variety of reasons. However for youth reaching out and gaining support is difficult because of different obstacles they face. They have issues from financial instability to adults at home not taking mental health seriously.

Bill AB 2003 will create a free, permanent online suicide prevention and mental health training program. This will AB 2003 aims to create a society where youth mental health and suicide prevention is taken care of with resources, support and supplies where necessary. With the free training educators across California can help create a better school environment and aid students with their mental health, whether it’s just listening to a student talk or referring them to free, local resources. The training allows for them to know what signs to look for and how to handle these situations with care and comfort, for both the students and educators.

With Bill AB 2003 California aims to create a state where people 13 and over can create a society where mental health and suicide prevention are taken very seriously and to ensure that everyone is educated on how to deal with it correctly. This allows for our state to become the best version of itself.
